- Getting started – consider your item and how it could become a bag, what type of bag? Do you have enough material?

- Using patterns
- Lay out your tote, cut it, pin the sides together, get ready to sew it, plan the handles and pockets, embellishments
- Sew it together and attach handles
- Review: check in, finish work

There will be an overview on how to use sewing machines and basic planning for how to make a pattern for the items, design and styling ideas, and sewing tips from the presenter.
We will provide a pattern, some additional handles, buttons, fabrics, trimmings, thread, and basic supplies.
Students are encouraged to bring their own fabric/old clothes! If you can, it’s also recommended to bring your own scissors, thread, any embellishments, zipper, handles.
For fabric, you can bring old jeans, old shirts, skirts, jackets, curtains, table cloths, upholstery fabrics, or old pillow cases. It can be any type of clothing as long as there is enough material for a bag. Tank tops are not recommended! 😉
If you have your own portable sewing machine and want to learn how to use it, you can bring it. Please, let us know in advance if you are bringing your own machine. You may want to come earlier to set it up.
No special safety clothing or gear is required. Glasses for close work would be helpful.
