Intro to CNC

Engraving things by hand came be fun produce very beautiful art. Sometimes it can be a little hard with a lot of detail or if there are a lot of repetitive patterns. Enter the world of CNC Engraving. You can take your 2D designs, even from a scanned drawing, and turn it into an engraved piece of wood or plastic, and in some cases soft metals like brass and aluminum!

In this class you will get introduced to how to take your digital designs and carve them on the CNC Router. We will be making simple name plates for our example project. If you have a simple design in mind that you’d like to try then bring an image on a thumb drive or email it to alex@portcitymakerspace.com and we can work on it in class. Acceptable formats are .gif, .jpg, .png, .svg, .dxf.

This will only tackle the engraving aspect of CNC machines, but it is possible to do 3D carvings, cut out parts for an assembly, use different attachments for various automated.

Cost for this class is $60, includes $15 for one day membership. $45 for current members using code CNCEVERYTHING.
