Intro to Welding for Teens
March 3 @ 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
*** This is our standard Intro to Welding class, but geared specifically for teens and youngsters! A great way to learn AND have fun in an exciting setting, outside of the classroom! ***
Prticipants will gain experience in the metal shop working with the MIG welder, along with supporting tools like band saws, chop saws, angle grinders, and more. Participants will learn important safety precautions about the metal shop, and will leave the class officially authorized to use the metalworking facilities at PCMS.
In this project-based class, students will use their newfound metalworking skills to build horseshoe coat-racks! This charming project is great space-saver for dorm rooms and bedrooms, or as a gift to a parent or loved one! Yippee-ki-yay!
This youth class is intended for students ages 12-21 years old, with little to no experience in the metal shop. Individuals with no metal shop experience are encouraged to take this class before taking future welding or machining courses. Class is expected to last about 4 hours, but attendees are encouraged to budget up to an hour after class to make sure they can get plenty of “hands on” time on the welder.
Required gear: All clothing should be non-synthetic (cotton or canvas is recommended), Long pants, long sleeve shirt, boots or other closed toe shoes, hair-tie for long hair, light duty work gloves, safety glasses and hearing protection. We recommend you bring your own safety gear, but we have equipment on hand if you don’t have any.
Class notes are available here – review them ahead of time or keep them for reference. A hard copy of these notes is kept in the Port City Makerspace Metal Shop, in a yellow folder.
Attendees younger than 18 years old must have parents/guardians sign this waiver before they can take the class! We have paper copies here at the shop, so you can fill the waiver out day of, too!
Maximum class size is 8 people. Slots will be filled on first come basis, pre-registration and pre-payment is required.
There is NO class minimum for this youth class! Only one attendee? Lucky you! One-on-one instruction with none other than:
Instructor: Steve Pamboukes
