Safety

• Tool Safety

  • Use wire cutters and files: When cutting off tacks or pegs, use wire cutters and file the ends flush to the wood. Be careful not to scratch the surface.
  • Use the right drill bit: Use a drill bit that is appropriate for the wood and the size of the holes needed to avoid splitting the wood.

  • Use tongs: Use tongs to handle the hot, steamed wood bands.
  • Wear gloves: Wear gloves for protection against heat.
  • Work quickly: Work quickly when the wood is pliable, and wear gloves to avoid burns.
  • Be careful with steam: A gust of hot steam will billow out forcefully when the steam box is opened. Be careful to avoid burning your face or hands.
  • Ventilate: Work in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling steam and heat.
