Probably the best resource for researching bicycle standards and helpful “hacks”. Sheldon Brown was a pioneer of documenting bicycle standards in the early days of the internet and his website is a virtual database. General Tuning Order

When doing a tune up, the order of operations should always be CLA = CLEAN, LUBE, ADJUST. Often, a proper adjustment can not be achieved until a component is clean and moving freely. Also, after cleaning and lubricating, you might find that an adjustment is not necessary. This is especially true for cables and brake pivot points.
