General Tuning Order
When doing a tune up, the order of operations should always be CLA = CLEAN, LUBE, ADJUST. Often, a proper adjustment can not be achieved until a component is clean and moving freely. This is especially true for cables and brake pivot points. Also, after cleaning and lubricating, you might find that an adjustment is not necessary.
Online Resources
https://www.parktool.com/en-us/ The largest and most comprehensive collection of how-to videos and articles on bicycle repair. Unlike most of the videos produced by YouTubers, these resources are concise and professionally produced. Almost every aspect of bicycle repair is covered, from vintage to modern, and includes information such as a list of all tools needed for a particular repair and common mistakes or issues to watch out for.
https://www.sheldonbrown.com/
Probably the best resource for researching bicycle standards and helpful “hacks”. Sheldon Brown was a pioneer of documenting bicycle standards in the early days of the internet and his website is a virtual database. Although the information is invaluable, the website itself is an antiquated hodgepodge of hyperlinks. Sometimes it may be easier to just use your favorite search engine and add the words “Sheldon Brown” to the end of your query (example: converting 7 speed hub to 8 speeds sheldon brown).
